The songs were self-recorded during house sitting stops around Otago harbour in Aotearoa New Zealand (Sawyers bay Dec-Jan, 2018-19, Portobello, April 2019, Whakaohorahi June 2019).

The tracks were Mastered by Alan Haig In Portobello late 2019 & revisited early 2021.

The lyrics of Barn were created in collaboration, from found pages of a children’s story book gifted by Arno Loeffler.

The opening verse of 66 songs quotes the late John Prine, from an interview at the House of Strombo, Dec 2018, “you can’t try to get back to what you were, you just become what you are day by day”.

All other lyrics and music, Aaron Sharma.

The album title came via artist collective pantybaggers.

The cover image was taken at Observation Point, Port Chalmers, Dec 2018.

Last year saw the release of tapes running out, a collection of mid 90’s walkman recordings, alongside 2008’s the road back they complete an early years 91-96 body of recording. It is the lo-fi, self-recorded ethic (sebadoh, chris knox, daniel johnson), relocated into the 21st C. that locates Is there a boat anywhere?

From the South of Aotearoa New Zealand’s, Te Wāhi Pounamu, ‘brought up’ musically with help from graeme downes/ the verlaines, bill direen/ the bilders, andrew maitai, alastair galbraith, sandra bell, the snares, bob scott, onanon, jetty/seafog & tiny pieces of eight.

A highlight through the years came in 2014 playing in dubh, alongside mike dooley (the enemy, toy love, snapper), hamish kilgour (the mad scene, the clean) and the late roddy pain (constant pain, snapper).

Is there a boat anywhere? emerged out of a six-month period of house-sitting around Otago harbour during 2018-2019. It was fear of losing the recordings that contact was made with alan haig (the chills, snapper and currently jay clarkson & the containers), who mastered the tunes.
This is the long & short of it – early 2021.

makes me feel better than most other people..like am special & exceptional & I gotta be smarter too grasping the true meaning of hard to listen stuff..this being said, some of the here presented sonix are rather rad. still feeling a wee bitter. for having asked their late drummer for a few classes, offering currency at then rates, he gave me this "you ain't worthy of my etheral inspiration"-rebuke.to most sticks&skinners I know, drumming workshops deal with muscle memory,go figure! dodomonster
