about

Azalia Snail has been making her uniquely sweet, hypnotic, noise-inflected brand of pop music since the days before Nirvana broke.

With her new album, Neon Resistance, which says a thing or two about the current state of affairs, producer/arranger and LoveyDove bandmate Dan West has tightened, refined and glorified Azalia’s sui generis sound, creating a textured, shimmering pop and roll album for the 21st century.

The opener, “Celeste (Can you Feel it?)” is the kind of infectious, upbeat song that would make Nile Rogers grin~~ a nod to T. Rex in its playful, bon vivant joy.

“Field Rep” is a slave-to-the-rhythm ode to saving the Earth, and having the appropriate partner in which to do that.

For the tender, loving cover of one of Tom Petty’s most poetic tunes, producer Dan West has lifted off most of the layers and presents Azalia in her most raw element. A song she has been singing since she was a teen, Azalia earnestly relates to the tale of longing and yearning in “The Wild One, Forever” from Petty’s debut album. Azalia’s cover was debuted on Tom Petty Radio SiriusXM on Nov 27, 2017 and has been in rotation since, including on renowned music critic David Fricke’s Friday Affair show.

“Every Day is your Day” is the anti-birthday song Azalia has always wanted to write. Why can’t every day be your day?

“Cherry Blossom” is a calming song about death, with its existential Japanese influence.

“Ode to Vega” is a tribute to the departed singer of the New York band Suicide, a startling original crooner.

“Save this Place”
and “Weekend Back” are politically charged mantras that speak about the necessity of revolution, resistance and revolt.

“Made out of Honey” is a love song.

“Head on Over” is a melancholy, heavenly instrumental featuring Ron Blake on trumpet, of the Pancho Sanchez Band.

The final song on the record, “I am the Night Sky”
is a song of protection and reflection.

As in all Snail albums, there is a similar theme, one which she has been exploring her entire musical career. Stay true to yourself, your vision, and the ones to whom you surround yourself.

The resistance, after all, is irresistible.
