about
These lyrics were written before I was aware much of what Lou Reed portrayed as parental abuse was untrue.
lyrics
What’s it like to be betrayed by your parents?
To have your father not give you shit
That’s an attitude I don’t understand
What do you say, Lou
When your parents betray you
And do things that you don’t understand
And do things that are so underhand
Employ electricity
Destroy your mind’s plasticity
Except they can’t
Uh-uh
They’re concerned you might prefer cock
So they shoot you with electric shock
I don’t understand
Hey, Lou, don’t swallow your tongue,
Swing the way you’ve always swung
We won’t let go your hand
It’s no-one’s business your affairs
If one door leads to separate stairs
That’s life
We all bang our heads on separate beams
In the attic of sexual dreams
That’s called fun
They fuck you up at age 17
You try to read a book, you can’t get past page 17
And then you have to start again
Oh, yeah, you have to start again
And invent yourself.

Most of these songs were available on the 1995 "Yes darling, but is it Art?" CD release. I'm assuming the masters are gone, which is fine if you do a good transfer from the original records. When I saw these were remastered, I was looking forward to some light de-clicking and removal of rumble from the original transfers. This isn't the case. Instead they added some weird super loud "tape hiss" for lack of a better term, and it makes it sound harsh. Very disappointed in the "remastering". numanoid1979
